We are the parents of a 20-year-old son who is legally blind and on the autism spectrum. Our journey has been filled with countless challenges, discoveries, and moments of triumph. Through these experiences, we’ve learned one fundamental truth: the best way to help our children succeed is to come together, share our knowledge, and empower each other.
We created Disabilities and Us to build a community that goes beyond just navigating the IEP process. Our goal is to offer a holistic approach to advocating for our children’s unique needs—whether it’s through understanding education rights, accessing healthcare and therapeutic services, or simply finding emotional resilience in the face of challenges.
We’re here because we’ve been where you are. We understand the complexities of advocating for a child with disabilities and how overwhelming it can feel. Whether it’s securing appropriate resources at school, navigating healthcare systems, or finding the right support network, we know the struggles you face.
But more importantly, we believe in the power of shared experiences. By bringing together our stories, our knowledge, and our collective strength, we can turn every challenge into an opportunity for growth—for both our children and ourselves.
At Disabilities and Us, we believe that every challenge is an opportunity for growth, every obstacle a chance to learn. Together, we can create a future where every child receives the education, care, and support they deserve. Let’s move forward together, empowering each other to advocate effectively, and celebrating every step of success along the way.
Mission: “Empower – Advocate – Succeed.“
We are a community built by parents, for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. Our journey began as we navigated life with our 20-year-old son, who is legally blind and on the autism spectrum. Along the way, we learned that true advocacy begins with knowledge, collaboration, and resilience.
At Disabilities and Us, we’re here to share our insights, offer support, and empower you with the tools you need to advocate for your child’s unique needs. Whether you’re working through the education system, healthcare services, or simply seeking emotional strength, you are not alone. Together, we can transform challenges into opportunities for growth—for both our children and ourselves.
